Week 8

Item # 18

I can see how useful Zoho writer, or Zoho sheet, or Zoho planner can be. I've signed-up for all three. I also played around with Google Docs. I don't know how much I will use these tools but I can envision how these free online software applications might truly "level the playing field" for people who do not own their own computers. The only (slight?) hitch I see is that - as with most online services - an email account is required to sign-up for continued access to these applications. Of course, that's not a problem for many. But there are still a lot of people out there who have no experience with email, and who may not realize how left-behind they are or soon will be.

Here is a document I created with Zoho writer and updated into my blog. It was really easy to use.

In Memory of My Brother Tom

You can shed tears that he is gone,
or you can smile because he has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all he's left.

Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember him and only that he's gone,
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back,
or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Item #19

I usually get most of my book recommendations from Amazon but I now have a new favorite place to browse..LibraryThing! I signed up for an account and added a link to my favorites...it's small now but it'll grow! I'm going to enjoy reading discussions about my favorites and finding out what other people have enjoyed reading. This is going to be very fun!

Week 7

Item # 16

I find wikis very interesting. I can spend hours on wikipedia. Everything is there. From a simple definition to the explanation of your favorite song. I see the pros and the cons of using wikis. The biggest con of course is that anyone can edit the wiki and may include incorrect information. I think if you are really worried about this, adding a login/password feature to your wiki is the way to go.

Item #17

I added my Blog to the SJLibrary Learning 2.0 Sandbox and added to the Favorite Animals page. Wikis definitely are a way to provide an infinite amount of current info for millions of people with diverse interests. This info age is totally amazing.

Week 6

Item # 13

I listened to the tutorial, looked around using the SJLibrary Learning 2.0 account and set up my own account.
Del.icio.us is a great site for pulling and exploring a variety of your own personal sites of interest. Being able to bookmark and tag the sites gives you the opportunity to have your own resources no matter which computer you sit down to work on. Del.icio.us is a website that I will explore more in-depth.

Item #14

Technorati. I love it! Great site. It's well designed. User friendly. I like being able to see all of the tracking data and the mostly commonly searched tags and all of that. I enjoyed browsing through random blogs and just seeing what was happening. Very cool. I think I'd definitely revisit this site and play around for a bit longer. And the Entertainment section was great for us pop-culture junkies!

Item #15

What does Library 2.0 mean to me?
It means that libraries are changing more and more every day. They are changing in ways that we never knew could exist 40 or 50 years ago technologically. People can now access the library from home, on an airplane, or on a beach in the Caribbean.I read the article titled "To a Temporary Place in Time" and I agree with the writer in that libraries are not just IN communities, they ARE communities. You can definitely see that here at the Calabazas Branch.

Well this has been fun and easy. Here's a couple of photos and I added the links to the generators I used.

Item# 11
I explored the Web 2.0 Awards list and now I'm UPSET!! I'm addicted to on-line shopping and now I find out about Etsy.com....I'm doomed, I need a raise, I have no control, I need to call my sponser, I need help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Item# 12
On to my next vice, eating. I set up a Rollyo account and set up a search roll for recipes. Gotta go, I'm hungry after all that shopping!

Week 4

Item #8
I set up my Bloglines account and subscribed to about 20 feeds...now I just have to find time to read them all! So much cool info to be found, I could spend ALL my free time here. Weather reports, new book reviews, local news...it's endless and I love it. I added the 'easy subscribe bookmark' to my FireFox toolbar so I can add feeds even easier. I also made my account public so check it out under my links.

Item #9
I added some interesting looking library feeds and I'll be checking them out for a few days before I decide if these are the ones I want to read or if I'll be adding different ones. It's like going to a restaurant with an endless menu and I like everything...kinda mind boggling!! I found most of the search sites easy to use but I especially think Topix.net and Syndic8 are helpful with lots of good info.
